I’ve always loved Harry. In so many ways, I aspire to engage with the world as he has. I was lucky enough to meet him a few years ago and to talk with him about what it means to be an artist. He was the first person to call me an artist and the only person to get me to wear a title so bravely, convinced. As if artist were this badge of honor he passed down in the oakwood dust of his words, a great cloak I wore that whole week, glowing. Harry Belafonte called me an artist. When you think of how Belafonte has worked to transform and expand our thoughts of artistic responsibility and consciousness, one is immediately moved into holy ghost action-oriented movement. He inspires the artivist in every way. Please watch the trailer for a film about him shared with me by a good friend, May.
